Live. Love. Be.

To Define an Inhalation

Notes

Quick Weekend Read: Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom
For those of you who know me really well know that there is few things that come between me and Paulo Coelho.  The Alchemist is a book I recommend to everyone and was known to gift for pretty much every occasion to everyone.  It’s one of those books that I found myself repeating, “It will change your life.”
Tuesdays With Morrie will change your life putting it up there where no other book has been placed: right beside The Alchemist for most coveted book.  Though Albom isn’t the greatest writer on the planet (former sports writer-kinda in the realm of obituary writer), the book is honest and beautiful.  The lyrics aren’t special but very conversational yet the message is one of perfection.
Based on the how to live according to the dying theme, Morrie, a man dying from ALS and former professor of Albom, explains what he has learned in his years on earth.  What spills forth on less than 200 pages is words of wisdom, love, and compassion.  It’s the answer to many people’s frustrations with everything from careers to love and marriage to family and friends.  It’s the handbook for relationships of every kind and why it’s so important to be present with everyone you meet.
I laughed and cried (in the middle of coffee shops, mind you) at the short book packed full of so much meaningful quotes and concepts.  Though I’m sure many of you have read it before, if you haven’t you should pick it up.  It’s a one or two afternoon read with tiny chapters and a compelling plotline.  And though it’s no spoiler that Morrie dies in the end, it’s the message he wants to tell to the world before he dies that is so special.
4.5/5 stars.
